ESTABLISH THE STUDENT ACCESSIBILITY ADVISORY BOARD

You deserve better, and together, we’ll make it happen.
What is the SAAB?
The Student Accessibility Advisory Board ensures students have a consistent voice in shaping accessibility-related policies and services. By working with SASC, USG/GSG, and administration, we will push for real change and hold the school accountable for prioritizing accessibility.
STUDENT
The SAAB is first and foremost run by students, both graduate and undergraduate. Administration needs to hear the perspective of students regarding accessibility on campus directly from us and our lived experiences. Your voice needs to be heard regardless of whether or not you have won an election. The SAAB will be for students, by students, and will never back down when it comes to letting our voices be heard.
ACCESSIBILITY
Your accessibility on campus is our priority, and you shouldn't need a doctor's note to prove the elevator in your dorm needs fixing. Student Accessibility Support Services, the Undergraduate Student Government, the Graduate Student Government, and administration does not anyone advising them on the perspectives of the disabled students of Stony Brook and our allies. It takes our own voice to speak for us.
ADVISORY BOARD
We will be ensuring that every action taken regarding campus accessibility will not just pass through the desks of abled administration. Campus accessibility affects us as students, and they need to hear it from us. Without our perspectives on these issues, the administration will not fix problems, will allocate money poorly, or will install functionless "accessibility measures."
Why do we need the SAAB?
YOU NEED A SAFE, OPERATIONAL CAMPUS
Every Stony Brook student, undergraduate and graduate, should feel secure and supported in their environment. A campus with broken facilities, inaccessible spaces, or unsafe conditions doesn’t just hinder some- it affects everyone. You deserve a campus where all resources are functioning, accessible, and reliable, so you can focus on your education and well-being without barriers or fear. By working with the school to help designate allotted funding, we can improve the quality of the campus for all.
YOU SHOULD BE HEARD
The SAAB will work with the school to make sure your voice reaches the ears of it needs to reach, and not just their inbox. No more forms or being sent back and forth between departments to find who you need- we're here to help. You should be able to speak to students like you who are here to listen.
YOU DESERVE ACTUAL CHANGE
We’re committed to making real change happen. We will actively identify the barriers that exist on campus and bring them to the administration’s attention. We’ll work closely with university leaders to develop actionable solutions, ensure accountability, and advocate for improvements. By gathering input from students like you, conducting accessibility audits, and pushing for ongoing updates, we’ll make sure that changes are not just promised, but delivered.
But...
I'M NOT DISABLED
Accessibility is for EVERYONE. When spaces, policies, and systems are designed to be inclusive, everyone benefits. True accessibility isn’t just about compliance; it’s about creating a world where everyone can participate fully, without barriers. When we prioritize accessibility, we build a better, more equitable campus for all.
I DON'T NEED ACCESSIBILITY
Everyone benefits from accessibility. When your hands are full of boba from Chatime, the automatic doors will open. When you don't want to jump a curb with your bike, the curb cut will be there. When you are home sick, your lecture will be recorded. Accessibility is not exclusive to disabled individuals, and you benefit from accessibility every day.
